The memorial plaque on the place where the synagogue once stood was unveiled in 1998. On the top is the inscription in Hebrew: 'לעתיד יש עבר ארוך'- The future has a long past. The rest of the inscription is in Serbian, recalls that on this place stood a synagogue built in 1913 and demolished in 1948, and commemorates the deportation of Jews on August 14, 1941: 'Ovo obeležje neka je uspomena na nevino stradale Jevreje Novog Kneževca' – Let this monument keep the memory of the innocent victims of Jewish descent from Novi Kneževac'. On the night of 14/15 August 1941 almost all Banat Jews, about four thousand, were arrested, and after a few days they were transferred to concentration camps in Belgrade. Below the dedication, are inscribed the names of the victims, 64 of them.
